Putin’s Arrogance and the Threat to Humanity by Humans

Putin’s Arrogance and the Threat to Humanity by Humans

The war between Ukraine and Russia, which has been tagged “Putin’s war” by some, is a clear indicator to the growing school of thought that no inhabitants of the earth (plants and animals, including natural disasters) has caused more damage to the earth than man. It is even more saddening that after man has continued to exploit the riches of the earth to find comfort and wealth for himself, he has also used the riches of the earth to find ways of destroying himself.

Many years ago, while growing in Upper Sokponba, a low class area in Benin City, Edo State, in Southern Nigeria, there was a sudden spike in occult activities. Many parents were enlisted in various occult groups, ranging from ‘Isokpikan’ to ‘Azigidi’, and ‘Ogboni fraternity’ amongst others. During this era, most weekends became a moment of fortification for members of these occult groups and their children. It was frequent to see parents get amulets and the likes for their children as a way to fortify them against ‘potential’ attacks. These children having being empowered in their various homes by diabolic powers became monsters in their various schools. A child who has been fortified against machete, broken bottles, gun shots, and various sources of harm, would then come to school to find a way to test run or show off what they are made off. They became bullies, and those who refused to be bullied go out of their way to find fortification for themselves too. This resulted to a spike in gangs, cult groups and violence in secondary schools in the city. Every student of history would attest to this fact and it can also be verified in the records of secondary school riots in Benin City from 1990-2000. Popular and highly populated schools like Immaculate Conception College (ICC), Edo College, Niger College, Western Boys High School, Edokpolor Grammar School, Asoro Grammar School, Akenzua Grammar School, and even girls’ schools like St. Maria Goretti, Itohan Girls Grammar School, Imaguero etc. were not left out. It was a highly disturbing social menace at the time. The security architecture of the state was greatly overstretched during that era.

Just as those students back then needed expression to utilize the charms they had been given, the same way Putin and his like will always seek an outlet to test run weapons and ammunition they have created or acquired. It is only normal that human will always look for an expression to test run the works of their hands. It is the same thing that makes owners of high speed automobiles often fall victim of breaking speed limits as they fall for the urge to test run or experience the speed efficiency of their automobiles.

The effect of the tendencies for humans to find outlet for expression will therefore depend on the kind of things they develop. If it is a positive innovation, as the world is still profiting from progressive innovations made by humans, everyone will be better for it. On the other hand, if it is a destructive expression like ammunitions and weapons of mass destruction, the world will suffer for it.

As long as there is no clamp down on destructive innovations, there will always be the urge to find expressions like what the world is currently witnessing in the Ukraine-Russia war.

There can be no world peace as long as someone somewhere is working on destructive technologies that are capable of destroying humans and the earth in general. Before Putin’s arrogance sought expression in Ukraine, the world has being struggling to put North Korea leader, Kim Jong-un, in check; the supreme leader nicknamed the ‘Nuclear Man’.

The United Nations, world leaders, opinion molders, and humans in general, need to do more than the present lips service to protect humanity. Our collective existence has never been so threatened as in recent times.

The many conspiracy theories that followed the outbreak of corona virus, shows the growing mistrust among humans across race. Humans can no longer vouch for what a fellow human can do in quest for power, wealth and fame. There is an urgent need for stricter rules; else, we will all wake up one day to find out that three quarter of the earth have been blown off by one ‘innovator’ who was only test running the strength of his innovation. This insanity must be brought to an end, starting from the needless war between Russia and Ukraine. Irrespective of who is right or wrong, the whole world should do all it takes to restore peace to Ukraine.

  • Unfortunately, these destructive innovations are capital intensive. The number of nuclear weapons lying in wait all over the world is insane. I was discussing this with my sibling a few weeks ago and we concluded that, sooner or later, nuclear weapons will be used. Will the weapons just lie fallow eternally? I think NOT.
We pray for peace in the world.
