No One Is Useless

“When we rate a fish with how it can fly, we would say the fish is useless. When we rate a bird with how it can swim, we will say the bird is useless. But when both are allowed in the environment that suits them, they will excel individually!”

“Your fight is different” ~ John Obidi

One thing that makes life frustrating for many people is the pressure to conform to the ‘norm’. It is even tougher when the ‘norm’ has its root with natural inclinations. Like it is a ‘norm’ in our society today to get a ‘certificate’ even when you don’t have the mental capacity to assimilate the knowledge that qualifies you to hold the paper. The people keep saying, just get a certificate!

Lady Brienne of Tharth in the TV Series, #Game of Thrones, was a victim of such societal ‘norm’. Though she was a ‘lady’ by virtue of her sex, she was taller than almost all the men around her, and her shape was far from what most men would call ‘attractive’. In short, she describes herself as being boring and lumpy! With the sexiness that characterises the conventional female folks not in her, she decided to work with what she got, her strength! So she started learning how to use the sword like a man, and fight like a man. It was only in doing that she found true happiness.

One thing everyone should do is to know what he or she is good at. You might not be professionally good at it from the beginning, but you must have seen the traits that you can be a star in that field if you work on it. Just as Lady Brienne was not a perfect fighter initially. When she saw that she could not be a ‘conventional lady’ as nature had already deprived her of that, she worked on what nature gave her; physique and strength. And with that, she weathered the storms of life, and ended up living the life of her dreams as the head of the Kings guard as a Knight!

No matter how people rate you, just know that you are not useless. In short, no one is completely useless. There is always something of value within if only you can fight their negative ratings and use it as a motivation to prove them wrong.

Are you physically disabled? Good! That is a physical limitation, saving you more time to work on your mind and creativity. While the physically abled people are wasting time on various activities, take your solitary advantage by working on creating solutions for the world.
Are you financially handicapped? Great!
Do you know that most of the great people we read about were not born by great parents?
Let that poverty be your motivation.

Don’t die useless, there is something you can offer the world!
