Loyalty And Obedience: Siamese (Inseparable) Twins

Written by Idede Oseyande

“And God said to Abraham, take thy son, Isaac, thy only son, whom thou love, and go to Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and , saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him”  Gen 22:2-3

In January this year, 2021, when my second adopted son came to stay with me, he was using a particular body cream which at the time cost around a thousand eight hundred or thereabout. He was so used to rubbing cream and would rub it whether the weather was hot or cold. Under hot sun, he will be sweating profusely because of the body cream. I tried to counsel him on the appropriate use of body cream with respect to the weather, but my counsel fell on deaf ears. As at this time, I did not even know the cost of the cream.

The first one finished and he needed to buy another one, then he came to me to let me know that his cream had finished. I enquired for the cost and he told me. This was twice the amount I used to buy mine. How can I  use that amount of money to buy what I don’t use on myself? I told him to look for a cheaper cream. I gave him instances of how I started using the cream I am using now. The bottom line was living within ones’ means. He still had some money he came with to my place, so he went ahead and got the cream, ignoring my counsel. I was patient. As an elder, experience as made me know where it will end, the chicken will also come home to roost.

The second one finished, inflation shot up the price of the cream and as an apprentice, with no time to earn his personal money, and he was without cream. All the excuses he gave as reasons why he could not use another cream was now swept under the carpet after staying for some time without cream. I later realized he went to take my hair cream and was using it on his body.

Just like my teenage boy acted, that is how some people act when they are blessed by God. They become uncontrollable. With a little promotion, a little wealth, a little provision, we make statements declaring what we can never do as if we own our lives. In Christendom, some believers are yet to be blessed by God because our God who knows the end from the beginning has seen that they will be uncontrollable when granted their heart desire. They confess loyalty to God and pray in his name, but their actions are completely contrary to their words.

You cannot be loyal and disobedient, it is not possible. Loyalty goes with complete and unquestionable obedience just like the case of Abraham as narrated in the epigram above.

Unfortunately, so many people needs to remain poor for them to be tamable, else they will become so unruly and tyrannical.

That help that has refused to come, that prayers that are yet to be answered might just due to your disloyal and disobedient mindset. Don’t get to the level where you can only be talked to when things are rough for you. In plenty or in want, in bliss or in crisis, learn to take good counsels.
