In Defense of What is Good!

In Defense of What is Good!
By: Idede Oseyande
Bad things thrive in our society because Good is hidden”
It has become worrisome to discerning minds that bad has become the yardstick in the world today. Everyone tries to shut down what is good so as not to offend what is bad.
We give excuses to defend against bad things happening around us, and we stand in awe asking why the world is like this.
Let’s take some practical examples.
In a social media group with rules of engagement, someone breaks the rule by posting pornographic scenes, comedy with vulgar scenes and language, we give a lame warning, and everyone moves on.
Another person sends in a motivational or religious post or even career-related posts, we come hard on the person and the debate is sustained in the group most likely leading to the removal or voluntary withdrawal of the person.
In a committee, a member is seriously putting his all to make sure the committee succeeds. He reminds the others of the task at hand, he is the first to deliver any assignment given to him.
And what does he get in return in our society today?
They mock him as overzealous, jobless with so much spare time to play with.
In the end, he is pressured to join the bandwagon of what is bad.
In a workplace, there is a worker that is always punctual and comes on time. What does he get in return?
They will ask if they are chasing him from his house, or if he does not sleep at home because of work.
Instead of him influencing them to join in being punctual and timely, they are instead pulling him to become late comers and unrepentant absentees like them.
In the political space, they have succeeded in selling to us the belief that we can never get anyone good, so we end up always shuffling for leaders from among the bad to worse, taking the good out of the picture.
This has also affected our knack for mediocrity, as we have become allergic to excellence.
How did we get here?
When we swallowed the defense of bad people by spreading the lies that no one is Holy.
When we constantly preach the message that we should choose from what is bad as good is not among the options.
When we refuse to speak up against evil in defense of what is good, we give credence and acceptability to what is bad!
It is time to turn the tide.
Don’t accept the saying that no one is good.
Don’t believe the lie that excellence is asking too much.
Don’t be coerced to conform when you are right. Walk away from them than join the evil gang.
Let your light shine, and showcase your good deeds irrespective of what those evil people think about it.
